Capturing the gentle chaos of family life, one authentic moment at a time.
Family Photographer

Kevin will shoot in the same candid style and create a timeless memory of you and your loved ones.
As a Family Photographer, I prefer to work in your home environment as an observer, much like I do with my wedding photography.
In most cases, I spend a morning or afternoon – sometimes the whole day, simply watching and shooting. My clients appreciate that they receive honest and authentic memories of these extraordinary times.

What is a Documentary Family Photographer?
In straightforward terms, documentary family photography captures moments, un-staged and un-contrived, of everyday life.
For my family photography, I believe authentic and candid images will last a lifetime. I like to help people relive the memories of their very precious family time together.
I have documented births, marriages and everything else in between.
My own personal Family Photography
I was the first official Fujifilm ambassador for Wedding Photography.
Therefore, Fujifilm occasionally flies over from Tokyo to make a film about me and my work.
I am with my family on our summer vacation in Spain in this film. The film shows off my family photography and a little of my philosophy while photographing families.

Creating a Family Legacy

It goes beyond traditional posed portraits and delves into the realm of storytelling, preserving precious memories naturally and authentically.
What is Documentary Family Photography? (FAQ)
-
Documentary family photography is a candid, unscripted approach to capturing everyday life. Rather than posing or staging moments, the photographer simply observes and photographs real interactions as they happen — the chaos, the quiet, the in‑between bits. It’s about truth over perfection.
-
Traditional family photography often involves direction — choosing outfits, setting up poses, maybe heading to a studio. Documentary photography flips that. It usually takes place in your home or a natural setting, with no interference or instruction. The goal isn’t a “perfect” photo — it’s an honest one.
-
Not necessarily. This style embraces real life, and that includes the laundry pile on the sofa or toast crumbs under the table. Of course, some families prefer to tidy up a bit, and that’s fine too — but it’s not a requirement.
-
That’s the point. Documentary photography isn’t about stillness — it’s about energy, connection, and being yourself. Fidgeting, running, sulking, giggling — it’s all part of the story.
-
Sessions vary, but most documentary family photographers spend a few hours with a family. Some offer full 'day in the life' sessions, which cover everything from breakfast to bedtime. The time allows things to unfold naturally, without pressure.
-
Not at all. The best sessions are the ones where families just do what they normally do — breakfast, playtime, bath, a walk in the park, whatever the day brings. The photographer’s job is to blend in and capture the flow of family life.
-
Both are common. Black and white is often used to draw out emotion and storytelling, while colour adds a different kind of realism. Some photographers shoot everything in colour and convert later, depending on the feel of each image.
-
Yes, absolutely. In fact, many parents prefer this approach for new-borns because it avoids the stress of travelling to a studio or dressing the baby up. It’s just quiet moments at home — feeding, cuddles, naps, and the calm (or not-so-calm) rhythm of new family life.
-
It’s less about gear or flashy edits and more about observation. A good documentary photographer has a sharp eye for moments, understands light, and knows how to read human behaviour. Their work should feel honest, intimate, and personal — never forced.
-
Not always. If you’re after posed portraits or want everyone looking at the camera, documentary photography might not be the best fit. But if you value real memories and the story of your life as it is, it might be exactly what you’re looking for.
