Film - Edition 4 Monochrome Lightroom Presets & AI Tools
Real Film. Real Monochrome. Real Character.
Film Edition Four – Monochrome is my most refined and expressive black-and-white Lightroom Preset collection to date. Built from the ground up, this pack goes far beyond simply desaturating colour — it’s a deep dive into the tonal structures, textures, and grain that made classic monochrome films so powerful.
Inside, you’ll find 65 handcrafted black-and-white presets, each one designed to echo the look and feel of iconic stocks like Kodak Tri-X, Ilford HP5+, Fuji FP-3000B, Rollei Retro, and many more. This isn’t a generic grayscale conversion — this is monochrome with soul.
Supporting these looks is a suite of 15 custom-built base-level monochrome profiles. These aren't surface-level adjustments — they operate at the raw profile level, shaping tone, contrast, and dynamic range before a single slider is touched.
The result? Deep blacks, glowing highlights, and film-inspired tonality that responds naturally to your image and light source.
But there’s more to this pack than just looks
You also get:
The full set of time-saving editing utilities that help keep your workflow fast and fluid.
A comprehensive range of AI-powered tools, built specifically for the latest versions of Lightroom Classic, CC, and Cloud.
And, new in Edition Four, a set of Technical Adjustment Utilities that give you fine-grain control over monochrome tone curves, contrast response, and highlight behaviour.
Whether you're creating timeless portraits, mood-rich street photography, or documentary projects with a classic feel — this is the monochrome toolkit built for the job.
Not Just a Desaturation Slider
Every preset and profile in this pack has been hand-built to emulate real black-and-white film stocks, with unique tone curve shaping, custom contrast maps, and carefully designed grain simulations.
These aren’t mass-produced LUTs or repackaged Instagram filters — they’re tools made for photographers who care about subtlety, mood, and photographic history.
Film Grain That Feels Right
Many of the looks in this collection include True Film Grain that’s been modelled to reflect how actual black-and-white emulsions behave — whether it’s the sharp, punchy grain of Ilford Delta, or the softer, smokier texture of Kodak Double-X.
The grain isn’t generic or artificially noisy — it’s layered into the image where it belongs, adding texture to mid-tones and character to shadows. And if grain isn’t your thing, no problem — it can be easily removed or softened using the included utilities.
Monochrome Profiles That Give You Options
Every custom profile in this pack is designed to give you a clean, stylised foundation — without being locked into a particular look. You can use the profile by itself to get the tonal feel of a specific film stock, or stack a preset on top for a full edit.
It’s the best of both worlds: colour science and tonal shaping at the base level, and creative styling only when you want it.
Who This Pack is For
Film Edition Four – Monochrome is made for photographers who want their black-and-white work to carry depth, intention, and texture.
Whether you’re working in portraiture, street, landscape, fine art or documentary, these presets will give your digital images the emotive power and timeless character of real black-and-white film.
Portrait and wedding photographers will appreciate the soft highlight roll-off and flattering skin rendering in the Monochrome Craft series.
Street and reportage shooters will love the bold contrast, dense shadows and cinematic mood of the True Film and Variant sets.
Editorial and print-focused photographers will find the base profiles deliver a consistent, high-quality look across diverse lighting and subject matter.
Above all, this pack is for photographers who don’t see black and white as an afterthought — but as a medium all its own.

Release Your Creativity - Film Edition 4 - Monochrome System
The Mullins Film Edition 4 - Monochrome System Promotional Video.
I’m excited to introduce Film Edition 4 – Monochrome, my most complete and carefully developed black-and-white preset collection to date.
This pack features 65 hand-crafted monochrome presets and 15 custom-built base-level black-and-white profiles, all designed to give your digital files the tonal richness, contrast depth, and character of real film emulsions. Every element of this pack is entirely new — no reused styles or recycled looks — just a pure focus on timeless monochrome photography.
True Monochrome Film Looks, Built From Scratch: Film Edition 4 – Monochrome draws on years of study into black-and-white film stocks and tonal rendering in digital workflows. These presets go beyond basic greyscale conversions — they simulate the tonal curve behaviour, texture, and contrast range of films like Ilford HP5+, Kodak T-Max, Adox Silvermax, and others, using LUT-based profiles as a foundation. Whether you’re after the bold contrast of Tri-X, the fine tonality of Delta 100, or the moody softness of Foma and Rollei stocks, the looks in this collection are designed to evoke, not imitate.
Grain That Belongs — Not Grain for the Sake of It: Grain is a crucial part of the monochrome film look — but only when done right. Many of these presets include True Film Grain, modelled from the visual qualities of real emulsions. It’s built to enhance your image, not overpower it — adding texture to midtones and presence to shadows where it belongs. Prefer a cleaner finish? Grain can be softened or removed instantly using the included workflow tools — giving you flexibility without sacrificing style.
Profiles That Offer a Clean Slate: Each custom monochrome profile provides a strong tonal base for your edits. You can use them solo — for a natural black-and-white feel without added texture — or as the bedrock for a full preset. They give you the contrast shaping and tonal balance of classic black-and-white film, without forcing any specific grain or fade — ideal for those who want full creative control.
Tools That Support You, Not Slow You Down: Also included are the full AI Utility and Technical Tools suite, designed specifically for the latest versions of Lightroom Classic, Lightroom CC, and Lightroom Cloud. From intelligent exposure recovery and highlight control to fast tone-mapping and soft contrast correction, these tools aren’t just shortcuts — they’re time-savers that help you stay in your creative zone without breaking the flow.
What's Included in the Film Edition 4 – Monochrome Pack?
65 Premium Film-Inspired Presets
15 Unique Colour Profiles
22 Workflow Utilities (including grain control, contrast tools, tone curves, and more)
12 AI Utilities (requires an up-to-date version of Lightroom Classic or CC)

Every preset in Film Edition 4 – Monochrome is fully compatible with Lightroom’s Amount slider, giving you easy, precise control over how strong or subtle the effect appears.
Once you’ve applied a preset, simply use the slider to adjust its intensity — whether you’re going for bold, high-contrast drama or a softer, more restrained black-and-white feel.
It’s a powerful way to keep your edits tailored to the image, your subject, and your own creative style — without losing the consistency or character of the original film-inspired look.

Kodak Double-X S222
-
No adjustments were needed for this one — I simply applied the Kodak Double-X 5222 preset from the Film Edition 4 – Monochrome collection, and the look was there instantly.
Bold contrast, cinematic grain, and a classic tone straight out of the box.
This preset is built on my custom Kodak Double-X 5222 Profile, designed to recreate the textured, silver-rich look of one of cinema’s most iconic black-and-white film stocks.
Kodak Double-X has been in use since 1959 and remains a favourite among cinematographers for its deep contrast, glowing highlights, and raw, expressive grain. It’s the stock behind classics like Schindler’s List, as well as modern films like The Lighthouse — known for their unforgettable monochrome visuals.
The preset leans into those same characteristics: dark, inky blacks, sculpted midtones, and a dramatic tonal range that brings a tactile, almost analogue weight to your digital images. There’s a bold grain structure built in, but it can easily be softened or removed using the included utilities.
Perfect for portraits, street scenes, or moments where you want your image to feel cinematic, intentional, and timeless.

Ilford FP4+ 125
-
For this edit, I started by applying the Ilford FP4+ 125 Profile to establish a clean, film-like foundation. I then added the Curve – Hard utility to deepen contrast, followed by the Grain – Cinematic utility to introduce just the right amount of texture.
A simple three-step process that delivered a timeless, analogue-inspired result.
This preset is based on my custom Ilford FP4+ 125 Profile, designed to reflect the smooth tonal range and classic rendering of one of the most trusted black-and-white films in still photography.
Ilford FP4+ has long been favoured by photographers for its fine grain, excellent detail retention, and gentle highlight response, making it perfect for portraits, landscapes, and thoughtful documentary work. It’s a stock that delivers clarity and control without sacrificing character.
This preset captures that balance — with soft mid-tones, crisp whites, and a natural contrast curve that holds up across a wide range of lighting conditions. The grain is present but subtle, echoing the clean finish of traditional FP4 prints straight out of the darkroom.
Ideal for everyday storytelling, editorial work, or portraits where nuance and tonal control matter more than punch or drama.
Streamline your editing with a versatile set of AI-powered utilities, designed specifically for the most recent versions of Adobe Lightroom.
These tools allow you to make refined, expressive adjustments quickly and effortlessly — so you can stay focused on the creative side of your workflow, not the repetitive tasks.
And when you want to dial things in? Use Lightroom’s Amount slider at the top of the Presets Panel to fine-tune the intensity of each preset with precision and ease.
